The Plateau State Government has officially commissioned the Cottage Hospital in Siken, Bokkos Local Government Area, marking a significant milestone in the state's healthcare sector. The commissioning ceremony, performed by the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Nicholas Baamlong, who represented the Governor of the state, His Excellency, Barr. Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.

Dr. Baamlong highlighted the government's commitment to quality healthcare delivery, calling on the staff of the hospital and people of Siken community to be accommodative and committed to the sustainability of the healthcare service delivery.

The hospital, originally completed and equipped by the Plateau State SDGs office, was initially not put to use. However, following its renovation by the Plateau State Ministry of Health, in partnership with the Bokkos Local Government Council; the facility was handed over to the Plateau State Hospitals Management Board, which subsequently employed and deployed 40 medical personnel to ensure effective service delivery.

In his welcome remarks, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Sumi Benjamin Garkuwa, commended the Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for their role in the hospital’s completion and equipment, the gesture, he said, attracted government attention from different levels. He also praised the Ministry of Health for its intervention in renovating and operationalizing the facility.

The Executive Chairman of Bokkos Local Government Council, Hon. Amalau Samuel Amalau, expressed gratitude to all government ministries and parastatals that contributed in different ways towards making the project a reality.

Hon. Amalau pledged to provide more beds, parameter fence, among other things. He called on the people of Bokkos LGA to keep supporting the government for more dividends of democracy.

In a goodwill message, the Project Coordinator, SDGs, Mrs. Nanbam Danjuma (Lot), represented by the Project Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer, Engr. Anfo Mann, Stated that the commissioning of the Cottage Hospital in Siken is expected to improve healthcare access for residents of Bokkos LGA and its environs, furthering Governor Mutfwang’s administration’s commitment to strengthening the health sector in Plateau State.

The Coordinator expressed joy over the operational status of the facility, and urged the people of Kulere Chiefdom to take advantage of the hospital and guard the personnel and equipment as their own.

Goodwill messages were also delivered by other dignitaries, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, Gayi Timothy Gayi; the Acting Saf Ron Kulere, Saf Lawrence Ayizat; and the President of the Kulere Development Association.

As part of efforts to promote environmental sustainability, the Commissioner for Health, alongside other dignitaries, participated in a tree-planting exercise within the hospital premises. This initiative aligns with measures to mitigate climate change and promote a greener environment.
